#TBT to AVP San Fran: Day 1

Dear readers~

So I have decided that since the NCAA volleyball season is over for the spring, I'll be covering the AVP events on Mondays and posting some of my older, or unpublished, blogs from the 2018 AVP season as well as some from the 2018 NCAA women's indoor volleyball season. With the AVP not doing a stop in San Francisco this season, I chose to start with this. Now it's time to begin with my first #TBT blog so I hope you enjoy!

On July 6, 2018 was Day 1 of the San Francisco AVP open. There were many teams competing on Day 1. One of the teams not competing wasJake Gibb and Taylor Crabb. This is because the pair were over seas playing in Poland the week of the tournament so they were unable to make it to the 2018 AVP San Francisco Open.

The number 2 team on the women's side has a very well known athlete. Her name is April Ross. Ross won the silver medal in London in 2012 with Jennifer Kessy, her current coach, and bronze in Rio with Kerri Walsh Jennings, who is currently partnered with 2016 Olympian Brooke Sweat. April's current partner is Alix (with an I) Klinemen. For the San Francisco open, the duo is ranked number two behind Emily Day and Betsi Flint.

Ross and Klineman played against Cassie House and Molly Turner as match #8 of Day 1.  The game ended with an official score of 21-12 and 21-11 with Ross and Klineman winning both sets.  Klineman had an impressive 12 kills along with 3 aces and 3 blocks while Ross had a total of 10 kills and 4 aces for that game.

Ross and Klineman's next game was against Karissa Cook and Katie Spieler as Day 1's match #12. The game ended with an official score of 21-15 and 21-10 with Ross and Klineman winning both sets Klineman had 9 kills, 1 ace, and 5 blocks while Ross had a total of 13 kill and an amazing 4 aces.
Ross and Klineman's next game was against Kelly Larsen and Emily Stockman for match #14 on stadium court at 11:15 AM PST for Day 2.

On the men's side, the number 5 team is Chase Budinger and Sean Rosenthal. Budinger and Rosenthal played their first match against Mark Burik and Ian Satterfield as match #3 of Day 1. The game ended with a final score of 21-16 for both the first and second sets. Rosenthal and Budinger ended up winning both sets and then the game. Rosenthal ended with 11 kills, no blocks, and 1 ace while Budinger ended with 19 kills, 1 block, and 3 aces.

Rosenthal and Budinger's second match of the day was against Casey Patterson and Stafford Slick. that game ended with Patterson and Slick winning the first set 23-21 while Rosenthal and Budinger won the second set 21-16 and later the third set 15-11. At the end of the day, Rosenthal had 14 kills, no blocks and 2 aces while Budinger had 20 kills, 3 blocks and 1 ace.
Rosenthal and Budinger's next game was against Billy Allen and Ryan Doherty on stadium court at 2:30 PM PST for Day 2.

Don't forget that this weekend is the third stop of the 2019 AVP season as the AVP travels to New York for the first of 3 gold series events as part of the 2019 AVP season. So make sure to check those out on Amazon Prime if you don't live near New York \City. I hope you enjoyed my first #TBT blog from 2018. Until next time, Miller out
